Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
I officially feel silly now. Spelling and me, well, I need to be better friends with the spellcheck, you're absoiutely right.
I"m not sure how precisely I managed to convince myself opossum was 'possum'.
Thanks for the review!

Vox, how much do you care about this story? From reading it, I get the impression you don't care very much about it; there's a lot of spelling errors that could've been easily caught by either proof-reading once or by using a spell-checker. If you want people to review your work, then you need to make sure you've at least cleaned up the easy stuff. Otherwise, they're left with the impression that the author doesn't care. And if the author doesn't care, then why should the reviewer care?
Now unfortunately I haven't read the rest of the novel so I can't say anything about character development or stuff like that. But I can say that the dialogue is generally good. It comes off a bit stilted in the beginning, but the middle of the piece reads pretty well.
What you need to work on are descriptions. Take this for example:
It's actually a bit too much information. The "turning onto her side" is redundant as you describe it in the next sentence. "Sucking in a breath" is also a tad redundant (though very much less so) since it's implied from the preceding clause. Neither of this is a big deal, but descriptions are best kept active and simple.
Good luck.
